City by the Bay

Things to do in San Francisco

Out of all the cities that I’ve visited in the US, it’s San Francisco that surprised me the most. Maybe because I didn’t have expectation at all. We got there from Vegas at noontime where our hotel room was not even ready for us. We stayed near Union Square so our activities were centred in that area. We were surprised for the first time in our tour we felt a cool weather, that’s why I had to take out my boots and beanie. We got there exactly on the first week of October.

What to do in San Francisco

We were surprised how beautiful the streets were and the Victorian houses. We’re also surprised that the food was incredibly nice and most of all, we’re surprised how everything was in close proximity to each other. The wharf is close to the city centre which is the Union Square and the Chinatown is next to Union Square. It’s like everything is walkable if you’ve got time of course. But we never walked because we’re lazy and we got kids. But we had a great time in our 3 days stay, here are the awesome places we visited.

I promised to myself I would never leave San Francisco without seeing the Golden Gate bridge and Lombard Street so those were the 2 places that we went out on our 2nd day. We asked the taxi driver to take us to both places and made him wait each time we stopped and took photos. I know, it’s not a good way to visit a place because we were in a hurry but it was enough for us to appreciate the views and take considerable number of photos and videos, we just had to tip him big time.

Chinatown

Chinatown was like a bonus as we didn’t plan to come here but it’s next to our hotel so we cannot ignore it. I tell you, my boys had a blast going here and finding a lot of stuff like the Japanese manga and anime figurines. I had fun shopping souvenir items too and yes chowing authentic Chinese food!

We had lunch at Swiss Louis Italian & Seafood Restaurant, the clam chowder was good but what pulled us in was the spectacular view of the bay with the Golden Gate bridge in the distance.

Union Square

How can I forget this place, I had a great time shopping during the 3 afternoons that we were here. If you’ve got a little child travelling with you, you have to cut your day short and go back to the hotel so he can take a nap. And that’s what I did, after putting him to sleep I left him with his dad and went to Union Square from 4 to 7pm. The shopping centre was enormous, right in the square are Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s then a couple of blocks away are Westfield, Neiman Marcus, Marshalls and everything. And look, I found a heart sculpture in Union Square, I can figuratively say I left my heart in San Francisco 🙂
