What? Going on a picnic while on a holiday? It was Christmas day, everything was close and that’s the only sane thing to do when we were in Launceston. It was our second time to be in Cataract Gorge, we went there on the first day where we crossed the suspension bridge (story on my next post).
Cataract Gorge is a river gorge in Launceston, Tasmania approximately 1.5 km from the city centre. The area has a public park with a chair lift, hiking trails, swimming pool, landscaped gardens, a cafe and restaurant. I planned to go for a swim in the pool but turned out it’s also the plan of a hundred other people on Christmas day. It was crowded that we ended up just sitting by the river and had a mini picnic. But it’s no ordinary river, it is picturesque with little flowers by the side like lupins and other wildflowers.
Apparently, people watching is good while in the park when there’s nothing else to do. It’s more interesting when you are completely in a new environment with a sweeping scenery and spectacular view. It’s a better respite after days of rushing to different places and fitting in a lot of itineraries. Just bring plenty of food and drink to munch while observing nature and passers by.
I was wearing a pretty floral dress with sheer sleeves and layers of ruffles from my favourite Australian label, Bardot. This particular dress was sold-out quickly online that I had to go to a physical store farther from the city to get my size. I’m quite impressed with this brand as it has made its way into the US market via Nordstrom. Yes, this dress is available as of my writing in Nordstrom website, gotta check it out.
