If you’ve seen my previous posts about Launceston, you would notice that I haven’t shown the look of the city which I think is the most important of all. And I’m not gonna skip that, I just had too much pictures that I don’t know how to trim it down without making anyone getting bored. So this time, I’ll show the heart of the city, the type of houses, buildings, the streets and the shopping malls but in bite size only so don’t panic.
Launceston is the 2nd biggest city of Tasmania which is next only to Hobart, the state capital. It is a quiet but charming city, a vibrant hub for food and wine, culture and nature. It is one of Australia’s oldest cities and is home to historic buildings which many are heritage listed. They are not limited to government houses but also to churches, residentials and shops.
It didn’t help that we visited on Christmas time which is a quiet season for them and the whole place looked like a ghost town. Although when I was shopping on Christmas eve, there was still a shopping rush going on and the stores were beaming with delightful goods. Too bad, my luggage space was limited so I only bought really cute things like the flamingo picnic mat that I used in our picnic in Cataract Gorge.
Most of the houses have a federation style and look like cottages. These houses were just a block or two away from the main shopping centre. But don’t they look cute, charming and vintage?
It has its own airport which is only 20 minutes away from the city centre, below shots were taken at the airport on our flight back home. I find Launceston a nice and cool place to visit though I don’t know if I can live there as it’s too quiet for me. But we had a great time exploring beautiful places, finding delightful things and indulging great food.
