The Best Sunset

The Best Sunset blog

It’s maybe a cliché stating this but I’ve witnessed the best sunset in my life after quite some time. The last time I was mesmerised over a sunset was years back in the Philippines while the best sunrise I had was in Niagara Falls. We went to Victoria to see the Great Ocean Road at the end of March to celebrate our anniversary and the first stop was at Aireys Inlet.

What to do in Great Ocean Road

I’ve actually made a mistake which I didn’t realise until we got there and started looking for our hotel. I was meant to book for an accommodation in Lorne but silly old me the Lightkeepers Inn that I booked was located in Aireys Inlet which was another 20 minutes away from Lorne. In hindsight, it was a good mistake else we wouldn’t have been in this part of the Great Ocean Road.

The vantage point when staying in Aireys Inlet is it is the location of the Split Point Lighthouse which offers stunning coastal vistas especially during sunset. After an almost 2-hour flight from Sydney to Melbourne and another 2-hour long drive from the airport to Lorne the last thing we want to do was to chase a spectacular sunset. But since our hotel was next to the lighthouse so why not go there anyway.

We wanted to drop by Willows café for a coffee and scones but it was closed when we got there so we proceeded to the lighthouse. The afternoon sun hit the Eagles Rock when we reached the lookout and believe me it was incredible, agree? I noticed the clouds started to look like feathers when the sun went down and it created a really beautiful sunset view.

By the time we left the lighthouse, the sky depicted more colourful palettes and the whole town had dramatic sunset moments wherever we went. We went to check out the restaurants in the area and decided to dine at A La Greque. The Greek food was outstanding, I would come back for a repeat if I find myself there again.

I can’t miss to mention the outfit that I wore that day. This red sweater is from Chiara Ferragni’s eponymous flirting wink collection, it is light at the same time warm since it is made from merino wool. It’s the new season’s collection and still available in Farfetch. I wore a dad’s sneakers for a change as I’m into bulky sneakers lately and this pair from Jo Mercer was super comfy and light. My pink crossbody bag is from Stella McCartney which is a vegetarian brand.

Do you love sunsets? Where was the last time you had a spectacular sunset moment?
