Simple Ways to Relax at Home

How to relax

We are in a lounge mode at the moment and nobody can blame us, it is cold and been raining these past few days. And with the ongoing lockdown no one wants to dress up and put on make-up. I’ve been living in comfy loungewear for months now, my official work-from-home clothes have elevated though from old tracksuit to cute looking ones such as this set from Femme Luxe Finery. But to totally enjoy this lounge mode moment, here are 5 easy ways to maximise the feeling.

Listen to soothing music

Maybe earphones are my best friend outdoors but at home I play my old time favourites in this retro CD and cassette player. Hey, I have a lot of CDs I acquired pre-MP3 era and I want to use them every now and then. Don’t judge me, I like vintage sometimes and this CD player is the cutest, don’t you think so? Listening to mellow music is soothing, well only next to the sounds of falling rain and splashing waves.

Drink tea

Tea contains L-theanine, an amino acid that reduces mental and physical stress and keeps us calm. So we don’t just think it’s relaxing, it actually is. My favourite tea that would put me in a chill state of mind is green tea and if I want to sleep I’d drink chamomile.

Indulge on healthy sweets

Chocolates release endorphins which reduce stress and pain, making us feel happy. It’s a known fact that sugar can indeed make us happy but excessive sugar can make our bodies get sick too, so eating moderately is key. Part of my chillaxing process is indulging on my favourite dark chocolates with nuts. During strawberry season, I make sure we don’t run out of strawberries. I don’t know why chocolates and strawberries are a match made in heaven.

Burn a candle

The smell of the scented candle stimulates the part of your brain which is connected to memory and mood. And lighting candles can provide the perfect atmosphere to induce calm and a sense of well-being. So, a candle can give double benefits that is absolutely perfect for self-care moments. I normally use lavender scent when I want a deep sleep but last weekend I found this candle from one of my favourite homegoods shops. It’s in a pretty pink colour too and the dome that comes with it blew me away. But the most exciting part is the scent which is Wild Strawberry and Fig. I’ve been looking for something like it, all this time I thought it’s a bubble gum scent, now I know the real thing.

Wear comfy clothes

This is a no-brainer but it’s still worth mentioning. Nothing beats wearing comfortable clothes and slipping on warm socks or booties when lounging at home. I can’t completely relax unless I will change into a loungewear that will also keep me warm during nippy days.

So how do you relax at home, is there any simple tip that you can add?
